In the wee hours of the night, a poor dog was left to fend for itself after being dumped over the fence of the Tri-County Animal Rescue shelter in Boca Raton, Florida. The furry little creature, later named Parker the Shih Tzu, had been neglected for years and was in dire need of love and attention. The shelter workers were shocked to find the little pup huddled next to the dumpster, looking like a tangled mess of fur and emitting an unpleasant odor. A staff member took to social media to share Parker’s story, and it’s safe to say that the neglected pup is finally getting the care and affection she deserves.
You may have seen on the news when Parker was thrown over our shelter’s fence in the middle of the night near the dumpster. It was an honor for us to rescue her, but the condition she was in is something we will never forget. Her hair was stuck to her skin, her nails were wrapped around her paws, and her wounds were infested with maggots. The stench was also unforgettable. Our team of veterinarians immediately went to work to save Parker’s life. They spent more than two hours shaving her matted fur, tending to her wounds, and removing mammary tumors and nodules from her eyes. The vets were shocked by the extent of her injuries and hoped never to see anything like it again.
We offered words of encouragement to Parker, assuring her that the worst was over and that she was loved. Despite her eye being underdeveloped and her body temperature decreasing, we remained hopeful and positive. The staff at Tri-County Animal Rescue were uncertain if Parker would survive due to the neglect and mistreatment she had endured for years. However, Parker defied the odds and continued to live on for multiple nights, which was nothing short of a miracle. The rescue team considered Parker’s arrival to be a blessing, despite not knowing her original name or history. They credited their veterinary staff for keeping Parker alive, acknowledging her bravery and resilience throughout her traumatic experiences.
The SPCA believes that Parker was confined in a cage and utilized for breeding. To investigate who is responsible for getting rid of Parker and to identify any other dogs in similar situations, they have commenced an investigation and are collaborating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. WPBF News reports that Tri-Humane is positive about Parker’s recuperation and anticipates that she will be available for adoption in September. Parker’s ability to walk on the grass is a significant advancement, particularly considering that she was unable to move at all when she first arrived. Check out the video below:
